Migrate a User Mailbox to O365
Step 1 – Create User in Active Directory
1. Login to GSDC1
2. Open Active Directory
3. Navigate to the correct OU (ex. City of Glenwood Springs – Users – IS)
4. Click the “New User” button in the top ribbon

5. Fill in the fields with the user information and hit next

6. Create a password and uncheck all boxes. Finish the setup.
7. Open the user properties for the new user and an existing user who has similar job duties (the form requesting the account should include this information).
8. Click through the six tabs on the bottom row and copy/paste logical information, filling in information where needed. Click Apply.
9. Navigate to the Member Of tab and add the new user to the required groups. Click Apply and OK. Close the other user properties box.
10. Repeat for additional users if necessary.
Step 2 – Create Mailbox On-Premises
1. Login to GSMAIL1
2. Open Exchange Management Console
3. Login to the pop-up box with your Office 365 credentials
4. Navigate to Microsoft Exchange On-Premises – Recipient Configuration – Mailbox

5. Click on New Mailbox in the right-hand pane
6. Click User Mailbox and Next
7. Click Existing User and Add. Navigate to the user(s) you created in step one and click OK.
8. Click Next and Check the box for Specify the mailbox database… Click Browse. Click Mailbox Database 1231… Click OK. Click Next. Click New.
Step Three – Migrate the mailbox to Office 365
1. Login to portal.office.com
2. Click Admin
3. Click Admin Centers – Exchange on the left-hand panel
4. Click migration under “recipients”
5. Click the + then Migrate to Exchange Online
6. Click Remote move migration. Click Next.
7. Click the + under “Select the users you want to move” and find the user(s) you created. Click Add and OK. Click Next.
8. Leave “mail.cogs.us”. Click Next
9. Name the migration batch and leave everything else as is. Click Next.
10. Check the information in the boxes and click New.
11. Wait for the confirmation email, then go back to the list of migrations, click yours, then click Complete on the right-hand side.
12. After completion, go back to the Admin Console and navigate to Users.
13. Find your new user(s) and add them to the correct licensing groups.
14. If they need a mailbox immediately, assign the license manually as well.
